Geology and Reserves
Stockton encompasses circa 900 acres in the eastern Middle Anthracite coalfield, in the eastern portion of the Hazleton Coal basin. The Pennsylvanian anthracite fields are a series of basins with the lower elevations being below the water table. The mine sump water elevation within the project area is approximately 1084 ft. The Hazleton Coal basin is characterised as a relatively long, narrow synclinal fold striking east northwest – west southwest, and plunging towards the west. The structure is well defined due to regular cross-sections developed by abandoned underground mining operations.
Stockton has proven reserves of 4.2 million tons of run of mine coal, primarily on the Mammoth Seam. This equates to circa 2.1 million tons of washed anthracite. Atlantic believe there is huge potential to increase the resource base, either by exploring the current deposit to depth (which is still open) or by broadening the range and targeting areas in the vicinity. It has estimated that there is an additional 10Mt of resource within a 10 mile radius of Stockton and 300Mt within a 30 mile radius.
