Reclamation

Atlantic Coal practices concurrent mine reclamation at Stockton. The overburden which is removed at a ratio of 18:1 (overburden BCY: ton ROM coal) to expose the coal seam is taken to a disposal area located in a previously mined section.  This continual backfilling process ensures all reclamation remains current and maintains the open pit area within permitted limits, without having to establish an overburden dump elsewhere.  The backfilled areas are restored to approximate original contour and completed by seeding with grass and planting trees.
